Windows 11 is three percent away from being the most popular Windows version on Steam

Windows 11 is becoming more popular in the changing world of operating systems. This is especially true among gamers who use Steam services. It’s interesting to observe how this new OS is moving closer to surpassing Windows 10 as the top pick for the gaming community. The most recent data from Valve’s Steam Hardware & Software Survey shows that Windows 11’s popularity continues to increase rapidly. But let’s dive a bit deeper, shall we?

In June 2024, the market share of Windows 11 increased by 0.55 points to reach a total of 46.63%. It is now less than 3% behind Windows 10, which went down slightly, losing a total of -0.93 points. This movement shows an increasing favor for Windows 11 among Steam users even though there remains a small advantage towards Windows 10, with its user base at around 49.42%. It is quite fascinating that even the earlier versions, such as Windows 7 and 8.1, are still somewhat in use, although on a very limited scale.

96.61% of survey participants use Windows to play games on Steam. This shows how Microsoft’s OS holds a powerful grip over the gaming market. Linux and macOS stand far below, with 2.08% and 1.31%, respectively. This information is not only numbers but also a treasure trove for developers who wish to improve their games on recognized platforms.

Regarding hardware, the survey shows what gamers like and choose. For those using Steam, Intel is at the top in the processors market, with a percentage share of 66.80%, followed by AMD, which has 33.15%. Regarding CPU cores, six are the most frequent – they can be found in about 32.63% of systems surveyed. The survey gives an overview of different components used by PC gamers. Among those who use Steam as their gaming platform, Intel dominates the processor market with a percentage share of 66.80%.

In second place, we have AMD at around 33.15%. Regarding CPU cores specifically for gaming purposes, six seem to be most common among these users, accounting for approximately one-third or more than thirty-two point sixty-three percent (32+63%). Almost half of gamers think 16GB is the most liked option for memory. As for the GPU model, Nvidia’s RTX 3060 stands first.

What about the display resolutions? The survey shows that 1920 x 1080 is still the most common, with 57.47% of gamers using it. However, higher resolutions such as 2560 x 1440 are becoming more popular, too – this shows how much people in our community want better graphics and to be more immersed when they play games.

This rise in Windows 11 usage among Steam users signifies a change in the operating systems they prefer. It also shows how much the gaming community’s needs and desires have transformed. However, with Windows 10’s impeding EOS, Windows 11 is starting to be a choice for all users: its market share has grown 30% in June alone.
